Escapade Wynton Japan Tour

Escapade Wynton

Pierre Borel [DE/FR] saxophone

Joel Grip [DE/SE] double bass

Antonin Gerbal [FR] drums

A new project bringing together three of some of the most active members of the well-known artist collective, label and promoter of creative music, Umlaut Records.

Grip and Borel, with their extensive touring as a duo, have laid a solid ground for new discoveries in the world of improvised music. And now, with the longtime playmate Gerbal – heard in collaborations like Peeping Tom and Zoor – a new trio is born in which the members own voices join in an explosive choir of reflections, taking them on an undetermined journey under the name Escapade Wynton.

Escapade Wynton’s sound can be perceived as if reading Jorge Luis Borges “Garden of forking paths” : here you’ll find reflecting mirrors, echoes and labyrinths of false events. And the strategic way to manage duration and silence is developed during infinite series of times – parallel, divergent and convergent – in their own peculiar way.

The members of Escapade Wynton often give workshops in connection to their touring. For instance, recently at the Conservatories of music in Lille and Reims in France, at Euphemia in Warszawa and Codes in Lublin, Poland, and at the Stacion in Prishtina, Kosovo.

Gerbal, Grip and Borel are frequent collaborators with Axel Dörner, Sven-Åke Johansson, Sten Sandell, Bertrand Denzler, Raymond Strid, and have had the pleasure to play with groundbrakers as Evan Parker, Alan Silva, Joëlle Leandre, Mats Gustafsson to name a few playmates from the great reference of improvised musics.
