WER DA is an artist duo based in Berlin, consisting of Werner Kernebeck and David Braithwaite. The name means “Who is there?” in German, reflecting their stance of questioning existence and our connection to nature. They began their work in 2014 with the “Winter Creature” featured in Werner's installation Home. They create costumes while exploring their roots and perform as these creatures. Their work evolves from inspiration drawn from European masquerade cultures and prehistoric customs. Combining natural materials with contemporary artifacts, they create spirit-like beings with instinctive sensibility and a playful spirit. Since 2018, they have expanded their practice to include zines and texts, reflecting on the present state of humanity and society. The duo also runs the project space “NEON KUNST” and participates in multiple collectives including CZENTRIFUGA and GOGO TRASH, engaging in collaborative and experimental activities. They create installations by combining materials found throughout Japan and Fukuoka. At the October 25th and 26th event, they will also perform on stage using completed works.
